DIGNITY, RESPECT AND SAFETY FOR ALL, ALWAYS

For Jeanne and Judy, the spark of inspiration that gave birth to the Nurturing Nest occurred at a time when they were providing care to their mother Julia. Many services were available to assist them in their roles as caretakers, but the one service they found missing was short term, overnight respite. From this realization, they set out to develop an alternative short term respite model for serving the needs of elders and people with disabilities and their families.

The goal of the Nurturing Nest is to create an atmosphere where a caregiver can feel comfortable leaving their loved one, be it an elder or a person with a disability, for a day, a week or a month. This time apart allows the caregiver time to recharge and take care of themselves while their loved one has the opportunity to experience respite care in an inn-like environment on beautiful Cape Cod.

Massachusetts has very little overnight respite. Currently, overnight respite involves staying in a nursing home or an assisted living residence. This larger institutional setting is not able to best meet the needs of elders or people with a disability for short term respite. We hope to have created the type of environment at the Nest where those who visit us once will want to return over and over again!

The Nurturing Nest is born: a respite home with nursing oversight providing a reprieve for caregivers, while offering an enriching experience for its guests.
